Tonight is the royal ball, and Roland allows his daughters to pick out a jewel from the jewel room to wear. But the baby griffin that lives in the jewel room escapes, and when Amber talks Sofia into taking off her amulet against the promise she made with Roland to try on the necklace she picked, the griffin swipes the amulet. If it can't get any worse, Sofia has lost her ability to talk to animals because her amulet is gone, and now she's determined to find it before her father finds out...and before Cedric gets his hands on it.

While the king was indeed wrong that Cedric took the amulet, he was actually right to suspect Cedric in the first place, given that he was also chasing after the amulet for its power.
