Following a level crossing accident, Thomas has to cope with the aftermath. Meanwhile, the other Ffarquhar Branch engines learn a hard lesson about railway safety.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Darker and Edgier: Justified because it's an episode focusing on railway safety. The episode involves Thomas getting into a collision with a BMW (though we don't actually see the accident), the driver and passenger getting injured (in the original script, they were outright killed), and Thomas being held in his shed while the Safety Directorate carried out an investigation. It also featured a much less severe incident involving George ignoring Mavis' right-of-way and knocking her off the rails.
  • Downer Beginning: The episode begins with the scene of the accident involving Thomas and the car.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Sheffield gives one to George for the incident in knocking Mavis off of the rails on the level crossing:
Sheffield: This morning, I asked Toby if you were a fool or a bully. Now I know you're both! Only a fool would fail to learn from history, especially when that history only happened a day before!
  • Very Special Episode: The episode is written to convey a very important message about railway safety.
