!!This episode contains examples of:
* DarkerAndEdgier: Justified because it's an episode focusing on railway safety. The episode involves Thomas getting into a collision with a BMW (though we don't actually see the accident), the driver and passenger getting injured (in the original script, they were outright killed), and Thomas being held in his shed while the Safety Directorate carried out an investigation. It also featured a much less severe incident involving George ignoring Mavis' right-of-way and knocking her off the rails.
* DownerBeginning: The episode begins with the scene of the accident involving Thomas and the car.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Sheffield gives one to George for the incident in knocking Mavis off of the rails on the level crossing:
-->'''Sheffield:''' This morning, I asked Toby if you were a fool or a bully. Now I know you're both! Only a fool would fail to learn from history, ''especially'' when that history only happened a day before!
* VerySpecialEpisode: The episode is written to convey a very important message about railway safety.
