Clark suspects Davis might still be alive. Oliver discovers Jimmy trying to steal from Chloe's apartment, only for Davis to appear, knock them both unconscious, and hold them captive in the Talon's basement.

Tropes present in the episode:

  • Antagonist Title: The episode's title refers to Doomsday.
  • Book Ends: The Chris Levy's song "What You Feel," is played at the beginning and the end of the episode.
  • Bullying a Dragon: While tied up by Davis, Jimmy taunts Davis after realizing he's the monster who trashed his and Chloe's wedding.
  • Death Seeker: Jimmy shows this trait after being tied up by Davis and figuring out that Davis was the beast that crashed his and Chloe's wedding before proceeding to taunt Davis, who's struggling to maintain control.
Davis: The only way that I can control myself is if I kill one of you.
Jimmy: Then kill me, because you've taken everything from me. All that's left is scar tissue.
  • Eye Scream: Davis attempts to gouge out Jimmy's eyes after Jimmy cruelly mocks him, but stops after Oliver tells him that Chloe would never forgive him for killing Jimmy.
  • The Needs of the Many:
Clark: Chloe, I'm gonna spend every second looking for you. I will find a way to save you.
Chloe: Clark, you're not here to save one person; you're here to save all of us.
  • Power Crystal: Clark uses Brainiac's black crystal (from Season 5's "Solitude") to open a portal to the Phantom Zone.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Clark resolves to send Davis/Doomsday to the Phantom Zone.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Oliver calls Chloe out for hiding Davis in the Talon basement:
Oliver: So the needs of the cornfield killer outweigh the needs of the rest of the world? Is that it?
      Chloe: Oliver, it's complicated.
Oliver: No, "it's complicated." Yeah, that's the same thing your psychopathic boyfriend told me.
Chloe: Look, either I keep him with me or let innocent people die.
Oliver: Oh, come on, Chloe! If you really believed that, you would have handled things a little bit differently, don't you think? Instead, what do you do? You cook him dinner, you fluff his pillow, you rock him to sleep!
Chloe: Okay, look, I understand what it looked like from the outside, but trust me, I had the whole thing under control.
Oliver: Chloe, you didn't have anything under control! Speaking as Davis' next victim, I can tell you, your plan was seriously flawed!
    • As Clark tries to send Davis to the Phantom Zone, Chloe appears inside the Fortress and tells Clark he's wrong for giving up on Davis and resorting to condemning him to an eternity trapped in the Phantom Zone and bound to a murderous monster.
Chloe: I can't let you do this. [takes the crystal out of the console]
Clark: This is the right choice, Chloe. Trust me.
Chloe: Trust you? Clark, the only reason why you won't kill him is because you don't want blood on your hands. I can't believe you were willing to force him into a life of hell for all of eternity. Clark, I know you better than anyone. I can't let you do this. You would never forgive yourself for giving up on him.
    • In the final scene, Oliver calls out Clark for not doing what needs to be done.
Oliver: If you're looking for Chloe, you're wasting your time, Clark, but I guess that's what you do best, isn't it?
[Clark visibly restrains himself from responding]
Oliver: She's gone, man. She doesn't want to be found. If there's anyone who can make themselves invisible, it's Chloe.
Clark: Davis must have done something to her. Chloe would never lie to me if she weren't trapped.
Oliver: Either that or she just can't resist tall, dark, and Doomsday. Besides, Davis isn't a monster when he's around her. He's got real feelings for her.
Clark: Whatever his feelings are for her, Chloe would never care about him.
Oliver: Clark, she sent you on a wild goose chase to Alaska when she was hiding that psycho killer in the basement! Take it from a guy who spent ten billion on a merger with the girl that got away. You don't always choose who you fall for.
Clark: The Chloe you're talking about does not exist. She'd never choose Davis over her friends.
Oliver: Well, people change, Clark. Maybe it's time you did, too. You should have killed that thing when you had the chance. Clark, I know you want to save everybody, but eventually, you're gonna have to make the tough decisions. It's what heroes do. [leaves]
