After Lex is attacked by a mysterious man and marked with a strange symbol, Clark and Chloe learn that a member of the Veritas Society is still alive.

Tropes present in the episode:

  • Anti-Villain: Edward Teague wants to protect the world, but his methods are, to put it mildly, deeply flawed.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Lionel's attempts to find the Kryptonian device involved moving an ancient castle from Scotland brick by brick to America, turning it into the Luthor estate. He also made Lex practice a piano tune that just happens to be played by the cryptograph upon connecting it to the clock in the cathedral. It's not till Lex remembers the words to the tune that he realises that the thing he's been after is already in the Luthor estate - which was facing a different direction than it did in Scotland.
  • Event Title: The title of the episode refers to Clark and Lex journeying to Canada in search of answers.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Lampshaded by Edward Teague, who remarks he never suspected that Lex would turn out to be a major threat to the world.
Lex: You tried to kill me. Why?
Edward: The prophecies state that the Traveler would have a powerful adversary. I could never have foreseen that it would be little Alexander.
  • Human Sacrifice: Or, rather, a Kryptonian Sacrifice. Edward Teague decides the only way to save Earth is to kill Clark.
  • In the Hood: The first time we see Edward Teague, he's wearing a cloak.
  • Last of His Kind: Edward Teague is the last surviving member of the Veritas Society.
  • Linked List Clue Methodology: With the story moving back to the cryptogram, the show goes full National Treasure with an old watchmaker identifying the craftsman who build the cryptogram, the symbol carved on Lex becoming a lead that takes him and Clark to the same cathedral in Canada, and finally the cryptogram playing an old Scottish tune that refers to an ancient castle that was transported brick by brick back to America.
  • Villain of the Week: Edward Teague
