Go To

Tropes:

  • Affectionate Gesture to the Nose: Not quite "affectionate" per se, but Dog does press his nose into the palm of Charlie's hand as a sign of trust and agreement that they need to work together to find Annie.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends on Mike convulsing as his infection spreads badly through his body.
  • Downer Beginning: The episode's opening sees Dog carried off by the Hawk Monster, Annie and Mike tranquilized by the mercenaries, and Charlie is now completely on his own... on the most hostile island on Earth.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Cap realizes something about Irene and Annie's connection to one another, and is about to call it out when an attack distracts everyone.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: In the intro, the camera focuses on Charlie after Mike, Annie and Dog have been effectively removed from his company by the mercenaries, leaving him all alone, and it starts raining.
  • Internal Reveal: Cap learns from Mike what the audience has known since Episode 2: that Hiro and Mike secretly took money from Irene to take the Once Upon a Maritime's surveys to the area near Skull Island, where they ultimately got attacked by the Kraken and shipwrecked.
  • I Will Only Slow You Down: Mike, knowing that he's getting sick to the point where he'll soon be a lethal hindrance to Charlie in Skull Island's hostile environment and that they can't get him the necessary medical aid on their own; turns himself in to the mercenaries, while revealing nothing of Charlie's immediate whereabouts so that Charlie might be able to stage a rescue himself.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Subverted Trope. An Iwi wearing a full-face mask appears to menace Charlie in the red grass and pushes him into the Hawk Monster's hunting ground. But the Iwi is pretty much benevolent per their characterization in other MonsterVerse materials, saluting Charlie before the Hawk takes Charlie to Kong's home virtually unscathed.
  • Primal Chest-Pound: Kong pounds his chest when he's enraged to action by the Kraken tossing a whale at his home.
  • Tranquillizer Dart: Irene fires a tranquilizer dart from a pistol into Annie's neck, and the girl only has enough time to pull the dart out and spite Irene before she falls unconscious in seconds, remaining out cold until the next episode.
  • "You!" Squared: Several in quick succession between Cap, Irene, and Mike.
