Recap / 6teen S3 E16 "Bicker Me Not"

Go To

While selling hot tubs at his new part-time job, Jonesy accidentally breaks up George and Gracie Bickerson, an elderly couple that's been married for fifty years—even though it was purely by accident, his friends are shocked that Jonesy did that and Nikki gives him the silent treatment until he gets George and Gracie back together. In addition, due to suspecting that the Bickersons are his grandparents and misunderstanding the grandfather paradox (see below), Jude fears that he's disappearing from the world.

Meanwhile, Caitlin discovers that she has a male coworker named Kevin (who she's never met before due to a lack of overlapping shifts) and makes various attempts to meet him in person.

Tropes

  • Grandfather Paradox: As the gang's talking about Jonesy accidentally breaking up the Bickersons, Jude mentions that his own grandparents got married fifty years previously, just like the Bickersons—however, Jude never met them, "On account of the fact that they were political rebels who went into hiding." When Wyatt points out that, assuming Jude's grandparents are still alive, they're probably around the same age as the Bickersons—when Jude connects the history of the Bickersons to the history of his own grandparents, he soon comes to the conclusion that George and Gracie are actually his grandparents. The misunderstanding comes in when Jude gets worried that if George and Gracie break up (in the current timeline and not the past), he'll eventually cease to exist.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Gay?: Caitlin and Kevin finally meet at the end of the episode, to which Kevin was disappointed seeing the other Big Squeeze employee was a girl. When Caitlin gets confused as to why Kevin politely turned down her advances, she tries to get the other to help her get Kevin to fall in love with her. Gracie then bluntly informs Caitlin that "Kevin plays for the other team." Caitlin's confused at first but quickly understands what Gracie's getting at.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: George and Gracie are this (both literally and figuratively) while this episode also shows that Jonesy and Nikki are prone to bickering like George and Gracie (albeit not as frequently). Jen herself even points out (when both couples are fiercely arguing near the end of the episode), "It's like they're the same couple, fifty years apart!"
