Tropes seen in this episode:

  • Introdump: To put the alphabet into practical use and to remind viewers of who the characters are.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In reverse; at the time there were no regular characters whose names started with "Y" and "Z". Grover compensates for "Y" when he says that letter stands for "You" (the viewer). As for "Z" ... well, Big Bird can't think of anyone whose name starts with the 26th letter of the alphabet, an issue that (in addition to likely drawing letters from viewers, as Z names are not uncommon) would finally be resolved in 1993 with the introduction of Zoe. note
