JD's date with Kylie doesn't go as planned, and when JD makes a mention of SARS, a quarantine begins. Carla and others tell about their horrible first dates, and Turk finds out that Carla once dated Dr. Cox. Ted and Doug fight over Danni, who's back in town, and the Janitor makes a bet with Dr. Kelso that lands him in a large debt. Laverne's birthday is spoiled when everybody else in the quarantine wants to get some of her fave cake, especially Kelso.
- The Bet: Kelso bets Janitor $5 that he can't repeat a shot where he flicked a cotton swab 15 feet into a jar using a tongue depressor. Janitor spends the rest of the episode trying, only to rack up a $700 debt to Kelso. Kelso agrees to cancel the debt if Janitor gets him a slice of Laverne's face cake. When she catches him with icing on his thumb (Janitor ratted him out), he demands the full $700. Janitor then declares "Double or nothin'!" and launches another cotton swab, sinking his second shot of the night.
- Butt-Monkey: Johnson the dermatologist shows up as the Ted of doctors.
- Finagle's Law: JD's date with Kylie goes from bad to worse. He runs over a possum, which they take to the vet wrapped in his jacket, which reveals his "short-sleeved nerd jersey" of a shirt. The possum dies, and they back into a homeless man leaving the vet, whose hand gets wrapped in the nerd jersey, revealing JD's even more ridiculous undershirt. Then they get trapped at the hospital when JD casually mentions SARS, causing a lockdown... including his ex-girlfriend, Danni.
- The Gadfly: Because Turk's being a jealous baby, Cox decides to screw with him using his longer history with Carla.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Turk gets triggered when he learns that Carla and Cox once had a terrible first date.
- Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Danni hasn't had anything to eat today except vodka and olives.Danni: Quarantinies, anyone?
- Incest Subtext: Elliot mentions the complex feelings she got when she first got to see her father work as a doctor.
- Indy Hat Roll: Parodied when Jordan escapes the lockdown and reaches through the slowly lowering parody to get her hat.
- Take That!: In addition to his usual insults against surgeons, Cox also insults dermatology (It's Greek for "fake doctor").
- What the Hell, Hero?: Everyone knows the lockdown is JD's fault.Kelso: Mr. Donaldson hasn't been to Hong Kong in twenty years so I'd bet my one remaining testicle no one has SARS. Unfortunately, by hospital policy we have to stay locked down until the labs come back and that's going to take several hours. So let's hang in there and not forget this is all Dr. Dorian's fault.

JD: Kylie, angry mob. Angry mob, Kylie. - Writers Cannot Do Math: There's no way to get from $5 to $600 through double or nothing. Either the Todd can't do math (very likely) or the writers were thinking "$5 per attempt", meaning Janitor took 120 shots at the jar.
