- Bait-and-Switch: We think Cox has chosen Julie, only for it to turn out that he ultimately chose his pregnant ex-wife, and it was "the easiest decision I ever had to make".
- Betty and Veronica: Jordan, of all people, gets to play the Betty to Julie's Veronica. She's pregnant and the latter a sexpot.
- The Bus Came Back: Jordan returns, pregnant.
- Calling the Old Man Out: Eliot finally stands up to her dad. He demands she go into obstetrics because that's where her highest earning potential is, but she doesn't want to. He cuts her off.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Cox struggles for a minute with the fact that his new girlfriend has a sexual history with a lot of the doctors at the hospitals, but gets over it before we're into the second act. ... Only for Jordan to show up, pregnant.
- Heartfelt Apology: JD understands why Turk took the money; he and Carla are struggling to come up with cash to pay for her mother's retirement home, because they're a lifelong couple. Turk also forgives him for costing him his moonlighting.
- Helicopter Parents: Eliot's dad insists she has to be an obstetrician (pregnancy doctor), but she doesn't want to. As a result, he cuts her off financially.
- The Missus and the Ex: Jordan's back in town. Julie is sexing it up, while Jordan is heavily pregnant and struggles to hop up on a counter or pick a bottle up off the ground.
- Student Debt Plot: This episode deals with the debt doctors get into after medical school. Turk and JD are forced to steal supplies and pick up extra shifts to make ends meet. The episode's conflict begins when JD learns that Turk cheated him out of money for a shift they worked. Meanwhile, Elliot's father pays her debt off on the condition she become an OBGYN. When she refuses, he cuts her off.
- Surprise Pregnancy: Jordan pops into Cox's apartment during an evening with his girlfriend, heavily pregnant and saying she wants him back.
- What the Hell, Hero?: JD rips Turk apart for lying about how much money they would make for moonlighting at the free clinic.
