Recap / Scooby Doo Where Are You S 2 E 3 Scoobys Night With A Frozen Fright

Go To

While at the beach the gang finds a frozen caveman that was lost at sea. Then bring the caveman to the aquarium Oceanland, where the Caveman seemly has thawed out and come to life

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • All Cavemen Were Neanderthals: The caveman is a hulking, grunting brute.
  • Blown Upward by a Blowhole: While fleeing from the caveman, the gang runs across the back of a sleeping whale. When the caveman tries to do the same, Scooby stomps on the whale so its blowhole would expel a spout of water that lifts the caveman up.
  • Cartoon Whale: The whale kept at Oceanland resembles a sperm whale, albeit smaller.
  • Clam Trap: While chasing Shaggy and Scooby, the villain falls into a "giant clam" enclosure, where the inhabitant snaps closed on his rear end. He yells in pain and gets unceremoniously rescued by the gang.
  • Human Popsicle: The real caveman that was frozen and lost at sea.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When the gang tries to trap the Caveman in a net, Daphne leans too far over the edge she, Fred, and Velma are standing on. She falls over, causing Fred and Velma to fall over as well, and they land on Shaggy and Scooby, who are just leading the Caveman out so the rest of the gang can trap him in the net.
Shaggy: [after Fred, Velma, and Daphne fall on him and Scooby] Hey, like, what happened?
Fred: Danger-prone Daphne did it again.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Shaggy and Scooby attempt to hide from the Caveman by pretending to be seals, even play the horns with the real ones. The Caveman isn't fooled for a minute and smashes the horns Scooby and Shaggy were using with his club.
  • Ramming Always Works: When he, Shaggy, and Velma get trapped in a room with the ice-maker going full blast, Scooby uses a block of ice to ram the door. It doesn't smash the door down, but it does hit the door so hard that some of the ice is forced through the lock in the shape of a key. Scooby manages to reach under the crack and retrieve it before the ice can fill up the room.
  • Red Herring: Professor Ingstrom talks about how amazing it would be if someone could revive the caveman and the gang spots him doing something surreptitiously down at the dock right before another of the villain's appearances. He turns out to be innocent; the real villain is Professor Wayne.
  • Removable Shell: The chase scene features Galapagos tortoises whose top parts of their shells can come off for Scooby and Shaggy to hide under.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Professor Ingstrom's machine that can allow people to communicate with marine life, which Professor Wayne decides to steal.
    Scooby Doo: Scooby Doo!
    Fish: Scooby Doo! Scooby Doo!
  • Sweet Seal: Zig-Zagged. A trio of seals are seen bouncing balls on their noses, and they stand still so Fred, Daphne, and Velma can run across them without problems... but when the pursuing antagonist caveman tries to do the same, the seals start bouncing him around.
  • Toon Physics: Used to Scooby and Shaggy's advantage when they escape into a fish tank through a sideways window hatch that's holding back the water (coupled with a "Do not open" sign); the water stays in place long enough for the two to dive inside and Shaggy to close the hatch. When the pursuing caveman opens the hatch, however, the water comes gushing out.
  • You Meddling Kids: Professor Wayne has the honor of being the first villain in the franchise to call the gang this.
Wayne: And [the money made from Professor Ingstrom's machine] would have been mine if it hadn't been for those meddling kids!
