Recap / Scooby Doo Team Up Whos Scared

Go To

The Scooby gang is invited to a meeting of "The Mystery Analysts of Gotham City", an illustrious group of detectives including the legendary Batman himself. Unfortunately, one of Batman's foes, Scarecrow, decides to crash the party, forcing Scooby and Ace the Bat-Hound to team up when they're the only ones left unaffected.

This comic includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Continuity Nod: The gang was invited to the meeting during "Man-Bat and Robbin'."
  • Daydream Surprise: The comic starts with Scooby as Batman's partner in crime-fighting. However, before more than a page or two, it's revealed to be Scooby dreaming while at a meeting.
  • Empathic Environment: A bolt of lightning splits the sky as Scooby and Ace the Bat-Hound are running after the Scarecrow. This gets noticed by Scooby:
Scooby: Where did that lightning come from?
Ace: That happens all the time. Gotham has strange weather.
  • Evil Smells Bad: Shaggy mistakes the smell of Scarecrow's fear gas for spoiled deviled eggs.
  • Hypnosis-Proof Dogs: When Scarecrow crashes the party and sprays everyone with his fear toxin, Ace the Bat-Hound and Scooby Doo are the only attendees who don't see their worst fear.
  • Kneel, Push, Trip: A variation; as Scarecrow tries to escape, Batman appears in front of him. Scarecrow backs up, yelling at the Caped Crusader to stay away...and trips over Scooby, who was sitting behind him.
  • Meaningful Echo: In his beginning daydream, Scooby fantasizes about being the Dark Knight's daring partner in crime-fighting, capturing supervillains, and having Batman tell him he's a good dog. After he and Ace track down and help capture Scarecrow, Batman compliments him for real.
  • Mythology Gag: Who's Scared? was the title for the project that became Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
