  • Blatant Lies: Ted has no trouble seeing through Alexis's lies about the locket.
  • Brandishment Bluff: The man who robs Rose Apothecary didn't have a gun.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Alexis calls a journal "an empty book." Meanwhile, the always extreme Moira has gone even further into the clouds thanks to several days of not sleeping, having taken some Bosnian uppers to make it through her absurdly long flight home.
  • Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry: Twyla ends up on the right side of the jewelry swap.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: Moira threw herself into Bosnian culture and thus begins to sing Bosnian songs and order Bosnian breakfasts.
  • Happily Married: Continuing from the previous episode, Johnny adores Moira and missed her so much he comforted himself by reading old love letters she sent him. On his way out the door in the pilot Johnny only had a few minutes to grab what was precious to him, and he grabbed those letters.
  • Love Letter Lunacy: Moira discovers Johnny has been reading love letters from his past while she was away and reacts with jealousy, not realizing she is the author.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Alexis and later David are grossed out by the explicit nature of the love letters.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Moira has not slept in four days thanks to a series of long flights and one or possibly two Bosnian uppers. Jocelyn is also sleep deprived, thanks to caring for Roland, jr.
  • Snowball Lie: Alexis doesn't want to hurt Ted's feelings, so she sticks to the locket lie long after Ted has figured it out.
  • Status Quo Is God: Although Alexis invents the lie of a jewelry swap to get the locket back from Twyla and the episode ends with Twyla covered in her fabulous jewelry, the following episodes leaves Twyla back to her more plainly adorned self and Alexis rocking the bling.
  • Weird Aside: "Tell that to me at 21, escaping from the Yakuza".
