Chanelas are the new fad pet that is taking Tokyo by storm. When Shingo gets one, he becomes enthralled with it to the point that he has no interest in anything else, leading Luna and Usagi to suspect that it's another front for Jadeite to harvest human energy.
Tropes for this episode include:
- Early-Bird Cameo: Mika, a friend of Shingo, takes him to the pet shop with the Chanelas; she plays a bigger role later on when Nephrite shows up.
- Fan Edit: To compensate for being missing from the original dub, a DIC-styled fandub of the episode was created. (Unofficially dubbed "Pet Shop Of Horrors").
- Freudian Excuse: Shingo hates cats because one bit him on his nose when he was a baby. Shingo does gets better by the end of the episode though.
- Kick the Dog: Shingo does this to Luna while he is under the influence of his Chanela's scent.
- Kindhearted Cat Lover: Shingo goes to completely loving Luna and feeding her at the table.
