Recap / SWATS 03 E 12 Good Cop

Go To

With Street as a mole in Teague Nolan's drug smuggling operation, S.W.A.T. are just waiting for the right moment to take the whole operation down. But things become extremely personal for Street when his foster brother Nate gets caught in the crossfire.

Tropes

  • Crime of Self-Defense: When Hondo finds him, Street admits he was going to try and provoke Nolan into a fight to justify killing him in revenge. Street couldn't bring himself to go through with it though.
  • Due to the Dead: Hicks and Lynch both toast Nate (using chocolates as they're both former alcoholics) in recognition for his help bringing down Nolan at the cost of his life.
  • It's Personal: For Street after his foster brother is killed.
  • Noodle Incident: Hicks mentions that the French Consulate sends him a box of extravagant chocolates every year at Christmas after he once successfully defused a Hostage Situation there.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Nolan kills Nate to hurt Street.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Everyone assumes Street will go on one of these after Nate winds up dead. Ultimately subverted, as he arrests Nolan instead of killing him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The rest of 20 Squad, even if they understand the reasons why, are less than happy to learn Hicks, Hondo and Street kept them in the dark about the reasons for his resignation. Chris is particularly hurt by the revelation.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Hondo assures Street he's an exceptional cop.
Hondo: The only thing you owe Nate is to be the great cop he saw you as. That's who he was protecting.
Street: Is that who I really am?
Hondo: Street, are you kidding me? When you ditched us at that motel, I felt like every bad decision I'd ever made was coming back to bite me in the ass...but then I find you siting right here, instead of standing in that house, standing over Nolan's dead body. Street, you're a great cop. You came to me and Hicks about your brother Nate when you could have tried to handle it on your own. You sacrificed your reputation trying to stop something that threatened the entire city. I know now I made the right call putting you in, and I know that you were never going to go through with what you think you came here to do.
