Recap / SM G4s Mario Bloopers Mario Meets A Demon And Is Shortly Beheaded

Go To

Mario and friends summon a mysterious demon who changes everything

Unhappy with her failed attempts to scout band members, Saiko desperately summons Kaizo, her old friend and bandmate, out of Kevin's School to jam with her. Disgusted by how soft she's become, Kaizo encourages her to embrace her reckless and dangerous side. Can Luigi and Tari stop him from corrupting her into something worse?

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Tari and Luigi are successful in stopping Kaizo's corruption with The Power of Friendship and Kaizo is driven away before he can cause any more destruction, but Saiko is clearly sad about losing her old friend, and she admits she doesn't have any strong desire to continue her dream of starting a band.
  • Bizarre Instrument: Whimpu uses Pingu as a musical instrument during and after his audition. Nobody likes his performance.
  • Continuity Nod: Luigi joining Tari in helping calm Saiko down makes sense, considering he was the one who kickstarted her Heel–Face Turn in "Luigi's Lesson".
  • A Day in the Limelight: It's Saiko who takes center stage here, as the episode focuses on her and Kaizo's relationship and former past. Luigi and Tari also play a big role in being Saiko's Morality Pets.
  • Face Palm: Saiko's reaction to Whimpu's audition.
  • Group Hug: Saiko forms one with Luigi and Tari as a sign that The Power of Friendship has prevailed. Or, more accurately, they hug her first, and she hugs them back, making it this.
  • History Repeats: Once again, a psychotic dating sim character is brought to life, and they ditch their friend when they do something they don't like, says they were better off stuck in the game, and leaves at the end of the episode.
  • Hopeless Auditionees: The montage at the beginning shows that the SMG4 gang couldn't quite live up to Saiko's standards, including those that served in her band last time.
  • Kick the Dog: Subverted, when Tari shows Kaizo a dog, when he overcomes its cuteness he tries hurting the dog for the sake of edginess, Luigi stops him by showing wholesome artwork.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The episode's title only refers to a single scene in the episode; the real plot is about Saiko summoning her friend Kaizo (the demon in the title) and almost drifting apart from her friends.
  • Off with His Head!: The first thing Kaizo does once he meets Mario is decapitate him, which, of course, doesn't kill him. Hilariously, Mario is able to remove his own head as Kaizo was leaving in the end.
  • The Power of Friendship: Tari and Luigi attempt this to get through to Saiko and stop her rampage with Kaizo. It works.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Kaizo severs ties with Saiko when she makes it clear that she can no longer cause chaos with him.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Kaizo briefly does this to Saiko by encouraging her reckless and angry side that made her who she once was, which culminates in both going on a rampage through the Mushroom Kingdom. Their behavior influences Mario as well (though thankfully he's way ineffective compared to them).
  • With Friends Like These...: On top of looking down at Saiko's new friends with disdain, Kaizo soon reveals himself to be a toxic choice of friendship for Saiko; he nearly manages to undo all her Character Development via his influence and, when Saiko has a Heel Realization and decrees she can't be who she once was anymore, ditches her in disgust.
  • Your Head Asplode: Saiko's response to Fishy Boopkins' singing.
