The Inkling Disappearances contains examples of:

  • A Pirate 400 Years Too Late: Swagmaster gets excited during preparations to head to Anime Island. A little too excited.
Swagmaster: Aargh! Hoist the sails! Swab the poopdeck! Let's get scurvy, bitches!
Chris: Goddammit. You've been acting like a pirate for the past hour! Can you please help prepare for departure?!
  • Badass in Distress: Despite being able to hold her own, Desti ends up getting captured twice throughout the blooper. The second time, it sticks.
    • Later in the episode, Axol is shown to have been kidnapped as well.
  • Given Name Reveal: This is where we learn Meggy's last name, which is "Spletzer".
  • Heel–Face Turn: Despite no longer being employed, Chris and Swagmaster take up Saiko's offer to join Mario and the gang in their journey because they believe whoever is behind the disappearances is too big of a threat to the world to leave unchecked. Desti too.
  • Harmless Electrocution: Desti suffers this as a result of Luigi and Tari working together to stop Ryuk from kidnapping the Octoling. She isn't amused.
Desti: OUCH! THAT HURT LIKE HELL!
    Mario: You're welcome!
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone when a glowing Godzilla appears out of the sea and grabs Desti.
  • Red Herring: Evidence continues to pile up against Axol, as the episode starts with a malevolent closeup of him and its revealed that whoever kidnapped Meggy is employing anime characters brought to life using Inkling ink. It's to the point where even Fishy Boopkins is convinced that he's the one behind the kidnappings. Of course, when Meggy runs into him he's shown to be another victim.
  • Shout-Out: An Idiosyncratic Wipe mimicking the ones from Batman (1966) when Swagmaster says "Quick, to the A.S.S mobile!"
  • Wham Shot:
    • When Meggy gets taken somewhere by an ink version of Dabi, she (and the viewers) sees multiple Inklings trapped in orange tubes, faces frozen in panic.
    • Axol, who is suspected to be behind Meggy's disappearance and the recent Inkling abductions, has been chained to the wall of a cell, showing he isn't behind the kidnappings at all.
