- Foreshadowing:
- The Gamestop at the beginning of the episode has wanted posters for the evil penguin.
- The news report also talks about the victims of the evil penguin.
- Human Popsicle: The lake is so cold it instantly turns anyone who touches it into a block of ice, unless you were a creature who could handle the temperature like a penguin. This ends up being exploited: when the criminal penguin is trying to escape by swimming, Meggy asks Mario to throw her at it. Meggy sinks under the lake, gets frozen underwater, then resurfaces right under the penguin, launching it to the police.
- Medium Blending: Luke lampshades it at the beginning by telling the audience that we've got Gmod SMG4, 2D drawing SMG4, and now real life SMG4.
- Noodle Incident: When Mario turns up at the Mama penguin's house, dressed in his own penguin suit, she claims that he's not the usual person who kidnaps her baby.
- Run or Die: Mario and Meggy are being chased by the mama penguin, and the only way to get out is by riding on the side of the mountain.
- Spanner in the Works: Before knowing that the penguin was a criminal, Mario calls the pizza delivery service for pizza instead of help when he and Meggy were trapped on the ice piece the penguin caused them to be stuck on. When Pizza Spiderman came to deliver the pizza, he identified the baby penguin as the criminal and called the police force. After the penguin was captured, he thanked Mario as he delivered the pizza, because without his call, they wouldn't have found the criminal.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Meggy calls out Mario on kicking the penguin he found off the edge.
