Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 4 No Laughing Matter For M Night Shymalien

Go To

Luan considers giving up comedy while Rick and Lincoln deal with an alien plot.

Rick & Morty episode: M. Night Shaym-Aliens

Loud House episode: No Laughing Matter

  • Actually Pretty Funny: When Rick snarks about asking the "most intelligent people" in the universe and then saying they blew up, Luan manages a chuckle, finding Rick's joke pretty hilarious.
  • Adaptation Deviation: The events of "No Laughing Matter" turn out to be a gigantic layered simulation propagated by the Zigerion scammers. As a result, Lincoln never gets the chance to get Luan to return to her old bubbly comedic self, as Rick is Luan's only form of companionship throughout, which only made things shaky for her because Rick can't tolerate her jokes.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Rick doesn't rub in Luan's face about respecting stupid people. Instead, he advices her about exploring novel forms of comedy if her old style doesn't work.
  • Break the Comedian: In the same way as The Loud House. But, because the chapter is based on "M. Night Shaym-Aliens!", the damage to Luan's confidence is pretty much permanent, since Rick is her sole companion in the simulated world, none of her siblings actually get involved as a result, and the Zigerions further damage her character by insulting her.
  • Break the Cutie: Luan is extremely hurt when her family says she's not funny behind her back. And unlike in the original Loud House episode, this would follow her for the rest of the story.
  • Heroic BSoD: Luan is subject to this from both hearing her family's harsh criticism of her comedy and feeling no fulfillment from winning the Junior Comedians' Contest (which was part of the zigerion's simulation).
  • Kick the Dog: While Prince Nebulon gloats at Rick, he takes a moment to call Luan "pathetic" for her sense of humor.
  • Laugh Track: Luan notices that the laughter from the Chortle Portal audience sounds similar to the laugh track of a sitcom.
  • Pet the Dog: After the whole ordeal with the zigerions, Rick tells Luan that if her puns no longer work, she should just find some new material to work with rather than give up what she loves.
