We are already on the stage.

The Stage Girls of the 99th class of Seisho Music Academy face a new crossroad in life as they enter their graduating year. Having fought so hard in the past years to each stand on the stage, not just in school but in the brutal secret auditions to become the Top Star, none of them are truly ready to move on... until a train ride calls them back to the underground theatre, to sing, dance, and battle once more on its secret stage that responds to their every whim. Now, hungry as ever to become stars and stand atop Position Zero, they will stop at nothing to unleash their darkest and most selfish yearnings upon their friends and rivals in their most dazzling musical performances yet, on fantastic, reality-defying stages where anything is possible. For some, it will take nothing less than the annihilation of all that she is and everything that defined her... so that a Stage Girl can be reborn once more on the journey to her next stage.

Tropes featured in this movie include:

  • Adaptation Expansion: This movie serves as a continuation of the events of the titular anime series and its omnibus film, Rondo Rondo Rondo.
  • And Then What?: The central question of the film: Having fulfilled their lifelong promise to each other, Karen and Hikari are both left without motivation to perform. Finding a new reason to perform drives both their journeys in the film.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Revue of Annihilation sees Nana going One-Man Army against the entire class (except for Karen and Hikari) as an act of revenge for being unable to take the lead role in the Starlight play the previous year. All while on top of a train.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Mahiru confronts Hikari as her primary rival, declaring her hatred for the girl that caused Karen to leave the stage, and their Revue takes a distinctly horror-themed tone with Mahiru terrorizing Hikari. Her victim praises her for her incredible performance, and giving her the courage to confront Karen once more.
  • If You Thought That Was Bad...: Just when Maya thinks she's overpowered Claudine in the Revue of Souls, her callback to episode three of the anime seriesnote  is unexpectedly interrupted when Position Zero closes in on her sword. Claudine responds by laughing in Maya's face for nearly twenty seconds, which she uses as an advantage to win the Revue even as Maya furiously attempts to fight back.
  • Senior Year Struggles: The 99th class of Seisho Music Academy are preparing to graduate, and having to make difficult decisions about their futures and their next "Stage". This primarily manifests as a series of Revues where they face off against their biggest rivals to determine their futures.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Revue of Competition is just a big homage to the Olympic Games - a rather fitting coincidence, as the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games actually started over a month after the film's Japanese theatrical release.
    • During the Revue of Hunting, Junna quotes several lines from influential figures, saying that words have pushed her forward and that they are "her power".
      • In the same Revue, Nana's film studio uses an effect similar to the Toho logo.
    • The prologue to the Revue of Souls is a tribute to the Takarazuka Revue's origins.
    • Karen rides a semi-trailer into a Deadly Dust Storm as in Mad Max: Fury Road to her resurrection.
