Temple and Biff's scheme runs afoul of Tex and Carolina's feud, with fatal consequences.
Tropes
- The Bus Came Back: During the flashback, we see the Director, 479er, and Tex.
- Call-Forward: Carolina doubts she would be fighting a war alongside sim troopers.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Biff is accidentally impaled by the makeshift Blue Team flag during Carolina and Tex's fight. Nether of them care though and just continue fighting.
- Left the Background Music On: When the Freelancers start fighting atop Red Base, the troopers have the base's sound system play tunes to go along with the action.
- No Sympathy: When Temple calls out for a medic when Biff is critically injured, Carolina shoves Temple aside and barks that this isn't about him. Tex similarly removes the makeshift flag from Biff without care, leaving him to bleed-out.
- Pyrrhic Victory: Tex successfully retrieves the makeshift Blue Team flag, and thus Red Team is declared the official winners. Nobody on the team feels like a winner though, since Biff, a member of Red Team, was killed.
- This Is Unforgivable!: Temple chilling concludes this in a truly unforgettable way...Temple: We were pawns in their game. But the thing that I love about chess, is that sometimes... Pawns kill Kings.
