Recap / Reaper S1E3 "All Mine"

Go To

Sam must capture the soul of an angry mistress who sends insects to attack anyone who gets near her former lover. At college, Andi meets a new guy, who encourages her to quit the Work Bench and go back to school full time.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Chekhov's Gun: The vessel for the episode is a defective toaster. When they plug it in, it shoots sparks and in a panic, break it. What they didn't know is that it was made to be a bug zapper (since the soul of the episode can turn into The Swarm), so Sam has to jam a coat-hanger into it to make it work because they wound up "fixing" it.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Sam's "Devil Power" of the episode is anything Sam puts in his mouth magically turns into a cockroach, being used as a clue to lead Sam to Gloria.
  • Monster of the Week: Gloria is a Yandere who misconstrues her trist with Harold Bunsen as a passionate romance and murders his wife so that they could be together, burying her body in a compost heap where the corpse is eaten by bugs. Having escaped Hell, she gains the power to become a swarm of bees, which she uses to kill anyone who she thinks will get between them.
  • Red Herring: At first the group thinks that a random exterminator, then Harold Munson are the escaped soul.
