"How the hell do you two know each other? Clearly you haven't had any work done, otherwise you wouldn't have the timber and socks and the whole pebble beach thing you got going on downstairs..."
Directed by Mel Damski
Written by Carlos Jacott and Tim Meltreger
While on a birdwatching trip, Henry discovers the body of a young woman in the woods outside Santa Barbara. Coroner Woody discovers that the victim, Shelly Aaronson, not only had substantial plastic surgery done to look younger than she was, but that she died from a reaction to a massive botox injection. Henry is eager to come out of retirement again, and is hired by Santa Barbara’s premier plastic surgeon, Joan Diamond – who he once dated – to clear her name. Shawn thinks she’s guilty, Henry’s not so sure, but soon, Shawn finds himself competing with his father to find out who really is the killer.

Tropes:

  • The Assimilator: An unusual example; Shelly was copying facial features from celebrities and other plastic surgery-created faces to add to her own face. Briana Hicks was angry at Shelly for copying her nose.
  • Back in the Saddle: Henry’s eager to take on another case, much to Shawn’s annoyance, as Henry actually starts showing him up.
  • "Dear John" Letter: Gus gets a letter from Rachael with a basket of cookies explaining that they need to talk about their relationship. As she never shows up in the show again, it's heavily hinted she got back together with Max's father.
  • Delicious Distraction: While trying to figure out what Henry knows, Shawn and Gus tail Henry’s truck to a parking lot, where Henry apparently takes a nap in his truck. Quickly growing impatient and hungry, Shawn and Gus find a nearby food truck and get out to eat… at which point, Henry drives off while their hands are full of food.
  • Embarrassing Ringtone: Shawn recently got Henry a new phone, and Henry’s having a hard time getting the ringtone off a song with the lyrics “I’m Mr. Booty Man!”.
  • Enforced Plug: Shawn and Gus plug a book they wrote, “Psych’s Guide to Crime-Fighting for the Totally Unqualified”. Said book is actually a real bit of merchandise.
  • Frozen Face: Gus gets a facial botox injection, which gives him a perpetually startled expression until the end of the episode.
  • Genre Savvy: After apparently getting played by Dr. Diamond and then getting knocked out by her, Henry returns to his house to sulk in his bathrobe. When Shawn and Gus show up with new evidence that proves she may be innocent, Henry reveals he wore his street clothes under the robe because he knew they’d find something at the last minute, since they always do.
  • The Illegible: While spying on Henry, Shawn tries to figure out what the address he got from Dr. Diamond is, but can’t read it because it’s “Doctor writing”.
  • In Love with the Mark: Brad and Leecy were a con artist couple. Brad married Shelly so he could steal her money, but then actually fell in love with her.
  • Miserable Massage: Shawn and Gus question Shelly’s husband Brad Turner, a physical trainer and masseuse, while getting a massage from him and his assistant. Brad uses a little excessive force on poor Gus, but despite groaning in pain the whole time, Gus admits he feels better afterwards.
  • Older Than They Look: Shawn and Woody are both startled to see that Shelly was 48 when she died, despite looking in her early 30s. This is due to having lots of plastic surgery done.
  • Shamu Fu: Joan knocks Henry over the head with a mounted northern pike Henry has as a fishing trophy.
  • Uncertified Expert: Ted Lomax, another plastic surgeon, has a fake degree and has been practicing plastic surgery without a real one for quite some time.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Henry had a date with Dr. Diamond a while ago, but Henry never contacted her for a second one, much to her disappointment. Shawn can’t figure out why she’s so disappointed.
  • Woman Scorned: Leecy was outraged when her con-artist boyfriend Brad married Shelly so they could steal her money, only to actually fall for her. She killed Shelly and Brad, and then framed Dr. Diamond.
