Creatures that live in bodies of fresh water or frequent them during the Maastrichtian are featured.

Recurring tropes are:

The Velociraptor hunt segment provides examples of:

The T. rex mating segment provides examples of:

  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The old male T. rex who appears in the segment succeeded in bringing down an equally huge Triceratops. We only get to see the aftermath of the fight, but it was clearly a fierce battle where the T. rex got a substantial injury in one of his legs.
  • Scenery Censor: The copulation between the male and the female T. rex happens in the shrubbery, with some leaves obscuring most of the action.

The Deinocheirus segment provides examples of:

  • Goofy Feathered Dinosaur: The Deinocheirus is treated comically, culminating in it defecating into the floodplain its standing in.
  • Mosquito Miscreants: Mosquitos pester the Deinocheirus by tring to drink its blood, making it scratch and irritate itself.
  • Toilet Humor: The Deinocheirus defecating in the water is treated as a comical moment.

The Quetzalcoatlus mother segment provides examples of:

  • Behemoth Battle: Once the main female Quetzalcoatlus discovers that her rival destroyed most of her eggs, she engages her in a brief but intense fight in which she manages to drive away the assailant.
  • Evil Egg Eater: The older female Quetzalcoatlus disposes of some of the eggs of the main female so that her own children have less competition. While it is a wild animal with no morality, in this case she acts as the antagonist to the mother we follow in the episode.
  • Giant Flyer: The Quetzalcoatlus is one of the biggest flying animals ever and in the introduction of the animal we can observe how elegantly our main female flies in spite of her size. Interestingly, the animal spends most of its screentime in the ground, as azhdarchids are believed to be very apt for moving efficiently on land despite their aerial adaptations.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Justified in this case. Quetzalcoatlus is a North American species yet it appears in Africa, but in this case the documentary makes clear that only females come there in order to nest and are not permanent residents of the continent.

The Masiakasaurus family segment provides examples of:

  • Amphibian Assault: The Beelzebufo ambushes a baby Masiakasaurus and swallows it whole.
  • Swallowed Whole: The fate of the baby Masiakasaurus that has the misfortune of encountering a Beelzebufo.

The estuarine elasmosaur segment provides examples of:

  • The Cameo: An Austroposeidon (who would protagonize its own segment in 'Forests') briefly appears watching the plesiosaurs in the shore of the estuary.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Subverted. The elasmosaurs are said to be a species that can also frequent estuaries despite normally being a marine animal.
