Recap / Prehistoric Park Reimagined S 2 E 4 Forest Of Blight

Go To

A week after the successful rescue of the Silurian sea scorpions, Drew, Jack, and Leon travel to the Cretaceous Wahweap formation to rescue the obscure, but scientifically significant, lythronax. Meanwhile, back at the park, Cynthia attempts to take matters of park management into her own hands...to less than ideal results.

  • Bears Are Bad News: As Cynthia receives a startling reminder of after trying to get him and Diego to stop antagonizing each other by blowing an air horn their way, Smokey is most certainly not an animal you want to make an enemy out of.
  • Callback: In an instance that is lampshaded by Jack, the scorpioraptor pack are sent to the park through the portal via the exact same strategy that was used on the saurornitholestes back in the deinosuchus mission.
  • Enemy Mine: Occurs twice in the chapter.
    • In a comparatively light-hearted example, Smokey and Diego both temporarily go on truce from their latest round of antagonistic posturing for the sake of attempting to rush at Cynthia when she attempts to get them to stop fighting by blowing an airhorn in their direction.
    • Played for Drama, on the other hand, in that the lythronax and several herbivorous dinosaurs end up huddling together in mutual fear around a local Cretaceous period lake when a vicious wildfire begins in their shared forest home.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Cynthia very rapidly ends up getting on the park staff's nerves over the course of this episode by trying to boss them around in contrast to Drew's more careless and lackadaisical at first glance but ultimately trusting and possessing of good faith in his staff style of management. And as a result of her attempts at bossing everyone around and forcing herself into an 'in-charge' position, she finds herself on thin ice in regards to her continued employment at the park just like she did in only her second or third episode of appearance in Prehistoric Earth.
  • The Great Fire: A vicious wildfire that comes upon the Cretaceous Wahweap forest drives a lythronax pack and a combined herd of four different species of herbivorous dinosaur into huddling together in fear around a local lake. Naturally, this fire proves quite decent incentive for the dinosaurs to subsequently go running through the portal and into the present when offered the opportunity to escape in this fashion.
  • Pet the Dog: After largely treating him with hostility and antagonism over the course of their time working together in the previous chapter, Cynthia opens this chapter by making a genuine effort at apologizing to Jack for her behavior towards him back in the pterygotus mission.
  • Raptor Attack: Downplayed in that the 'raptors' behave quite realistically and are accurately feathered, but the newly discovered (in-universe) scorpioraptors prove quite intimidating to the rescue team when they first encounter them in the Cretaceous period.
  • Social Ornithopod: The newly discovered ornithomimid species and both species of hadrosaur in this episode are shown living together in herds and are even rescued together in the same place as each other. Naturally, they also end up sharing an enclosure together with various other large herbivores once they'd settled into their new home at the park.
  • Temper-Ceratops: Five different species of ceratopsian, three of which are newly discovered in-universe, are encountered and rescued by the rescue team in this mission. And out of all five of them, the first species encountered prove particularly gruff in that they end up goaded into charging through the portal via territorial aggression.
  • Tough Armored Dinosaur: A combined herd of two different (newly discovered) species of local ankylosaur end up encountering the rescue team one morning in Cretaceous Wahweap. And while they don't engage in any acts of aggression against the team, they are described as being very tough and robust.
