King Mondo is building a monster out of junkyard scrap and uses the game the Angel Grove High students are developing as the brains. Meanwhile, Billy develops some special new Megazord helmets for the Zeo Megazord.
Tropes:
- All Work vs. All Play: Jennifer vs Rocky. Downplayed in Rocky's case, as he's more Work Hard, Play Hard (
despite his reputation he's gained from "Rocky Just Wants To Have Fun") while Jennifer comes across as The Workaholic. - Final-Exam Boss: Inverted, although they had to use all of their Zeo helmets to beat Silo, he was only the second monster they had to face.
- Game Show Host: Silo's personality is a little bit like that. He asks a question, waits a few seconds for the "player" to answer, then gives the answer followed by "you lose!"
- Girl of the Week: Jennifer is Rocky's.
- Mid-Season Upgrade: For the villains and surprisingly happening in just the fourth episode, Orbus and Klank are forcibly modified in order to make the Monsters of the Week grow. The previous monster was permanently giant.
- Near-Villain Victory: Silo came the closest out of anyone during Zeo to finishing off the Rangers. Had he pulled a Taking You with Me, the Rangers would have probably been done for.
- Rage Breaking Point: Jennifer was rude to Rocky and he put up with it, but after Jennifer blames him for the password temporarily going missing, he's had enough and tells her off for her behavior. Jennifer admits she's acting this way because she wants to get into her school of choice.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Rocky vents out to Adam about Jennifer not treating him with respect in spite of his obvious crush on her. Adam doesn't buy it for a second.
- Wake-Up Call Boss: The second monster of the season comes the closest to killing the Rangers. Contrast that with previous seasons and it's not even close. Not even Main Drain comes anywhere near this close to victory.
