- Ascended Fanboy: Chip is obsessed with fairy tales and comic books, so he's the most excited to learn the legends are true and to become a Ranger.
- Badass Biker: Nick is introduced riding into town on a bike and the first to volunteer to go into the haunted woods.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Udonna first appears in a creepy black robe.
- Internal Homage: This episode is very similar to "Day of the Dumpster" for three reasons:
- When Koragg is released from the Underworld, he says "At last! After so many years I'm free!" which is a reference on Rita's dialogue from the MMPR first season opening sequence.
- The Rangers' dialogue in Rootcore when Vida says they should hear Udonna out is a reference to the original Rangers' dialogue in the Command Center.
- The morphing sequence is the same as the MMPR morphing sequence order (although this is merely a coincidence as the order is identical to the one used in Magiranger, the sequence being the ages of the five Ozu siblings from oldest to youngest).
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Rita Repulsa's very line is echoed by Koragg's first line (He actually says "After all these years, I'm free," but the similarity was close enough that many fans were confused into thinking the Backstory was set ten thousand years previous, when it actually appears to have been more like 20).
- Take a Third Option: Xander tries to reason with the Hidiacs. Didn't work.
- Tempting Fate: After the earthquake, Xander said "at least the worst is over". Then the forces of darkness are free.
