Recap / Power Rangers Jungle Fury S1E16 Friends Don't Fade Away

Go To

The Earth Overlord Grizzaka arrives at Dai Shi's palace. However, unlike the other overlords, he's not willing to work under a Dai Shi who's using a human. So, he pushes him aside, and takes up the mantle of leading the armies. Starting with his own personal warrior: Monkiwi.

Meanwhile, the rangers are still puzzled about the appearance of a werewolf attacking them. While dealing with this new monster, they also have to deal with their mentor being evasive, and the 3 way fight they have to deal with in the process.

Tropes

  • An Aesop:
Fran: Maybe next time you have a problem, you will run to your friends instead of away from them.
    RJ: Now, who's the master?
  • Badass Boast: By Fran, as she stands her ground and looks a lycanthropy turned RJ straight in the eye.
Fran: You wouldn't hurt a fly RJ, and you will not hurt me.
  • Continuity Nod: Casey recognizes RJ as the wolf they fought before.
    • RJ attributes the above to being attacked by Dai Shi.
  • Foreshadowing: Fran observes that RJ wouldn't hurt a fly. Absolutely right.
  • Mistaken for Transformed: RJ has been having trouble with his Wolf Animal Spirit and transforming into an anthropomorphic wolf monster as a result. He eventually regains control with help from Fran (and soon after morphs into the Wolf Ranger for the first time), but later on, the other Rangers and Fran hear a noise coming from RJ's room, where they discover a wolf and mistakenly believe he's stuck in animal form again. A fully human RJ, who walks in on them talking to the canine, quickly corrects the error when he informs them that he was just dog-sitting.
  • Wham Episode: Grizzaka takes over the war against the Rangers. One of the few successful overthrows of a villain in franchise history. But in the inverse, RJ becomes the newest Ranger.
