Recap / Pokemon S 9 E 12 Time Warp Heals All Wounds

Go To

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's not made clear how Jonathan died in the original timeline. Fortunately, the issue becomes moot when May, Squirtle, and Meowth alter history.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Sort of, though it is May's idea, Meowth seems to be guiding their balloon, even if he doesn't find it as impressive as his usual Meowth balloon.
  • Enemy Mine: May, Squirtle, and Meowth work together to save Jonathan.
  • Epic Fail: James and Jessie's attempts to steal the twerp's Pokemon ends with the former getting a nasty cold and the latter getting clonked on the head by a Volt Tackle-destroyed boulder.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Meowth overhearing Edna's story.
  • Five Stages of Grief: Edna is so heartbroken by the news of Johnathan's untimely death that she refuses to believe it and has been awaiting his return in depression-based denial ever since, even long after the train station becomes decommissioned.
  • My Greatest Failure: Edna greatly regrets letting Johnathan go to the city alone and not telling him she was pregnant.
  • Ghost Town: Fuchsia City, which went unvisited in the anime during the original series, appears here as a lonely city with hardly anyone in it. This becomes subverted when the time traveling shenanigans of the main cast turn it into a bustling city.
  • How Much Did You Hear?: May is quite offended Meowth is spying on her. When he somberly ignores her, she loses steam, however.
  • Pet the Dog: Meowth is genuinely touched by Edna's story and quite willingly helps May try and save Jonathan.
  • Railroad Tracks of Doom: When May, Squirtle, and Meowth end up being sent through time, they portal into the past on the tracks. Sure enough, a steam engine rolls down the tracks and nearly rams them down. When they return to the present day, a modern diesel train does the same.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: After the timeline is changed, only May, Squirtle and Meowth have memory of what the original timeline was like, and Edna and Katrina have no memory of their previous encounter with May, and act like they recently met her.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: May, Squirtle and Meowth preventing Jonathan's death by making it snow, so the train is delayed and Edna gets to tell him she’s pregnant.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Downplayed. Despite some mild bickering, Meowth is surprisingly compliant with helping May, despite being sworn enemies most of the time.
  • Time Travel: An oddly random case caused by Edna's pendant. No Pokemon triggered it.
