Goh decides to go Hard Mode with the series motto.

Now that he has Scorbunny, Goh gives new consideration to his quest to catch Mew. There is obviously only one course of action, and it's one Ash can certainly agree with: Gotta Catch 'Em All! They immediately go into Viridian Forest, where Goh starts his quest anew by employing Scorbunny's type advantage to catch every Bug type native to Kanto.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • All Webbed Up: After their journey, Cerise and Chloe enter the boys' room to discover Goh bonding with all the Bug-type Pokemon he caught...and Ash and Pikachu mummified in String Shot.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: The anime finally begins to truly live up to its English-language motto, as Goh makes this his quest. In fact, he decides to go hard-mode with the task as he seeks to catch all of Kanto's Bug types, including the evolutions separately.
  • I Meant to Do That: Goh randomly throws things at Pinsir to keep a good distance. Turns out one of them was a Poké Ball, which proceeds to catch it.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: Ash manages to save Goh from falling off a tree by giving him a double handed boost, something that would likely hurt both boys in reality.
  • Role Reprise: Due to the dub going bicoastal, Megan Hollingshead returns as the English voice of Nurse Joy after about 14 seasons.
  • Shout-Out: The English title for the episode references the song "Working My Way Back to You" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
  • Whack-a-Monster: Much like the first time it was introduced, Goh fails to catch a Diglett when there's just too many holes for it to potentially pop out of.
