Goh and his Pokémon are caught up in the friendliness of Ash's Alola team. For their part, Raboot doesn't seem too amused.
Ash and Goh are sent off to the region of Alola, where the former reunites with everyone from the Pokémon School.
- Babies Ever After: After the hint at the end of last season, Kukui and Burnet's baby Lei is introduced.
- The Bus Came Back: Ash reunites with most of the main Sun and Moon cast. Lillie couldn't be there as she's still looking for her dad with Gladion, but writes a letter to the class in time for Ash's return.
- The Cameo: Bewear, Stufful, Mimikyu, and Mareanie are shown getting food in the woods right after Goh meets Lana.
- Double-Meaning Title: The New represents Goh while the Old represents Lana, Kiawe, Mallow and Sophocles.
- Family of Choice: Professors Kukui and Burnet re-emphasize that they consider Ash as part of their family, even referring to him as Lei's big brother.
- The Glomp: Ash's Alolan team did this to him and he's the Trope picture in this Heartwarming pic. Seconds later they did this after Goh gives the Oh, Crap! look in a friendly way
- Haughty Help: Goh is at the end of it after Kiawe launches a Z-Move, but Marowak saved them from the attack. Where Goh is not Ash's rival, Kiawe accepts that then asks him to look after their friend, which he agrees to do.
- Small Role, Big Impact: Yamper finding a Leaf Stone for Goh to use on his Exeggcute has Ash bring up Alola Exeggutor and thus the events of this episode.
- Tastes Like Friendship: How Ash and Goh celebrate their welcome: eating food.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Goh didn't comment on two of Ash's Alolan Pokémon being a recently discovered Lycanroc evolution and a Mythical.
