Ash and Goh head for Shalour City in the Kalos region, where the World Coronation Series Battle Festival Challenge is being held. It turns out that among the participants there is Korrina, the Shalour City Gym Leader, meaning Ash will face off against her and her Mega Lucario once again.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Dragonite unleashes its full potential in this episode, and gives Mega Lucario quite a fight.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Gengar barely even gets a chance to do some damage against Mienshao.
- Curb Stomp Cushion: Clawitzer is able to negate Thunderbolt with Flash Cannon, but Pikachu dodges a follow-up Crabhammer before knocking out the Howitzer Pokémon with an Iron Tail.
- Fight Off the Kryptonite: Lob's Clawitzer uses Flash Cannon to absorb Pikachu's Thunderbolt.
- Friendly Rival: Korinna has certainly become one to Ash at this point, happy to see a Riolu with such a caring trainer but also just as much a Little Miss Badass as the last time we saw her.
- Funny Background Event: When Dragonite uses a huge Hurricane against Mega Lucario, an audience member can be seen flying away from the wind.
- Mass "Oh, Crap!": Riolu, Gengar and Dragonite react this way when Lob's Clawitzer negates Thunderbolt with Flash Cannon.
- Mr. Exposition: Ghurkinn explains Mega Evolution to Goh when Mega Lucario appears.
