Hapu has been coronated as the new Kahuna of Poni Island! And what better way to celebrate than with a Grand Trial? Ash sure thinks so. Just one problem: Ash likes to lean on Pikachu, and Hapu is a Ground-type specialist. Oops.

- Call-Back: Mudsdale getting affected by water then gaining an electric weakness is very similar to Brock's Onix though it's on purpose than an accident.
- Scissors Cuts Rock: Pikachu turns the tables after Mudsdale is soaked with seawater, effectively negating its Ground-type immunity to Electric attacks. This is a strategy used repeatedly in the past, even though Pikachu cannot naturally effect that change.
- Took a Level in Badass: Winning the Grand Trial, Hapu gives Ash a choice of Z-Crystals. He chooses Steelium-Z.
