Having mastered the Mimikium-Z move, Team Rocket lures the twerps to an abandoned Thrifty Megamart. It's time for the decisive battle between Mimikyu and Pikachu. Nanu, Acerola...not even Bewear...will be able to stop it.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Boss Battle: This trial for Ash has him fighting not a Totem Pokemon, but Jessie's Mimikyu.
- 11th-Hour Superpower: Just as Mimikyu utilises the Z-Move Let's Snuggle Forever, one of Pikachu's malfunctioning Electro Balls fully evolves into an Electro Web, sheltering him from the attack and allowing him to quickly gain the upper hand.
- Graceful Loser: When Pikachu wins, Bewear places Team Rocket in a shopping cart, laying the fainted Mimikyu on top, and launches them all back to Melemele Island.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Bewear arrives and sees Mimikyu's determination, it doesn't force a withdrawal of Team Rocket, and just quietly sits and waits until the battle is over.
- Secret Test: Nanu sets up a battle against Team Rocket for Ash's Trial. Ash doesn't win a Z-Crystal, though.
- Secret Weapon: After Pikachu withstands Let's Snuggle Forever, Ash's Electrium-Z again forms the Pikashunium-Z, allowing Pikachu to retaliate with 10,000,000-Volt Thunderbolt. The Pikashunium-Z crystal disappears again once it's done.
- Sure, Let's Go with That: After Team Rocket bugs Nanu for Ash's location, he gets rid of them by sending them to the abandoned Thrifty Megamart. When he is bugged again by Ash, Nanu sends him the same place to face Team Rocket for his "trial".
