Recap / Pokemon S 17 E 26 A Battle By Any Other Name

Go To

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Blame Game: Team Rocket sabotages the competition by stealing all the ingredients in town and in the nearby forest, and Miette and Serena both think the other girl is responsible.
  • Cooking Duel: Bonnie sees an advert for a Poképuff baking competition, and suggests Serena and Miette enter.
  • Dark Horse Victory: While the focus of the competition is on Serena and Miette, the victor of the Cooking Duel winds up being the Berrybaker kids.
  • Double Take: Bonnie as usual trying to get Clemont to hook up with the judge. Clemont stares at Bonnie onstage, looks at the empty seat beside him, and then he has his Oh, Crap!.
  • Enemy Eats Your Lunch: Miette makes herself known when her Slurpuff uses Psychic to steal some of Serena's Poképuffs. This coupled with criticizing Serena's sweets earned Miette the other girl's ire.
  • Everyone Can See It: When your rival (who you only known for less than a day) notices it almost right away, Serena should take it as a hint that her infatuation with a certain Idiot Hero is very crystal clear. Eventually, other characters will catch on (save for the aforementioned Idiot Hero), much to Serena's embarrassment.
  • Graceful Losers: Serena and Miette get over their loss, shake hands, and tell each other that the next time they see each other, their puffs will be better.
  • The Rival: Serena and friends get introduced to Miette, and it's instantly Hate at First Sight. At the end of the episode, however, Serena and Miette part ways on friendlier terms.
  • Running Gag: Twice did Clemont get in between Serena and Miette's Lightning Glare.
