Given how things go from here, one has to wonder if Dragonite really wanted to be caught.

Ash, Iris, Cilan, and Dawn investigate reports of a Dragonite having damaged a power plant.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: Meloetta is able to calm Dragonite so he can get treatment.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Dragonite's unusual rage and history of causing trouble in the town doesn't help the original suspicion that he attacked the power plant, instead of this being an accident from a battle between wild Pokémon.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Dawn yelling out of nowhere after Iris captures Dragonite.
    Dawn: I GET IT!
  • Stock Footage: When Officer Jenny and her trainer group attack Dragonite, the shots of Gurdurr and Garbodor using Stone Edge and Gunk Shot are taken from when Trip's Gurdurr and Roxie's Garbodor used those attacks. This is because the animation shows the two Pokémon standing on the left when they're supposed to be facing right.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: In the end, Dragonite allows Iris to catch him. But it's going to be a while before he obeys her, since he only considers her as someone to carry him along to tough opponents he can fight on his own terms.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Iris catching a Dragonite. Throughout the series, Axew is the only Dragon-type Pokemon she ever had. Her having Dragonite solidifies her as a formidable Dragon-Type user.
  • Unstoppable Rage: This Dragonite is unlike any other Dragonite Ash has ever encountered.
