Recap / Pokemon HAC 41 Who Cares Wins

Go To

Nearing Hoof Town, Flash and his friends stop by a small village that has a famous Pokémon center, Meeting with the two owners, Basil and Daisy, the group will have to help them reconcile with their son Cedar, a rebellious teenager who doesn't want to inherit their daycare.

  • A Day in the Limelight: Trixie is the main focus of the chapter, being the integral member who resolves the conflict with Cedar and showcasing even more Pet the Dog moments to establish her nicer side.
  • Dreadful Dragonfly: Subverted. Cedar's Yanmega is described to be a giant dragonfly Pokémon that can create destructive shockwaves, but it's never a hostile threat outside of battles.
  • Family Business: Basil and Daisy are a married couple who run the Pokémon center, in which their family has owned it for six generations. They now intend to pass on ownership to Cedar when they retire. Unfortunately, Cedar has no interest in Pokémon, creating tension between them.
  • Irony: The Wynaut has a constant and inviting smile, even though it's actually shy and turns away from most people. Fortunately, Trixie has him open up more when she performs a magic trick on him.
  • Rebellious Spirit: Cedar is disobedient to his parents, often neglecting his chores around the Pokémon center to play video games instead.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: After Cedar loses his bet to Trixie, it seems like he'll be stuck working at a Pokémon center he never even wants. However, Trixie rescinds her conditions and Daisy allows her son to pursue whatever career he wants and not have to inherit the daycare, creating a outcome everyone is content with.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Trixie challenges Cedar to a Pokémon battle on the condition that he won't have to complain about working at the center if he loses, but if he wins, she'll take his place instead. Cedar eagerly expects and the narrative seems set for him to win, given that his disinterest in Pokémon is portrayed sympathetically. However, Trixie easily beats him instead because simply she's a more experienced trainer.
  • Use Your Head: The Canidos at the daycare is described is a prehistoric Pokémon that use headbutts to charge and attack.
