"Big Damn Heroes" never refers to the physical size of the hero.

Charon has taken control of the remains of Team Galactic, and summons the Legendary Pokémon Heatran to complete Cyrus's work to rebuild the world. Buck and his Claydol, along with Detective Looker and his Croagunk, have to clean up the mess they made.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Adapted Out: Mars and Jupiter are not present, instead replaced with two generic grunts. Buck also fills in for what was the Player Character's role.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Initially, Buck's Claydol had trouble with Heatran. Then Croagunk came in and halted Heatran, as well as the two Galactic Grunts that were accompanying Charon.
  • Cliffhanger: At the end of the episode, when everything is resolved, Buck challenges Looker to a friendly battle.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: This episode takes place at Stark Mountain in Pokémon Platinum.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Heatran is "un-summoned" the moment Buck places the Magma Stone back where it belongs, even though the stone was already off before Charon summoned it.
  • Police Are Useless: Looker's role in the earlier games is invoked by Buck as the battle with Heatran wears on.
  • Tap on the Head: Looker shuts Charon up with a karate chop to the back of the neck.
  • Totally Radical: Count how many times Buck says "dude". In the game, he only says "dude" once, and it was in reference to something specific.
  • We Need a Distraction: Croagunk distracts Heatran while Buck goes after the Magma Stone.
