The battle against Team Shadow in the Grand Desert continues, with Doom Raizer making his way into the Hidden Temple while the others fight his grunts.
- Darker and Edgier: This chapter gets a bit darker and more violent than others up to now in the series, or arguably from the main Pokémon franchise. Doom forces Twilight to solve the puzzle that opens the doors to the temple by thretening the life of Owlicious, and when the group fights back against Team Shadow several of the human characters get into physical fights with each other, which is rare in the series since it normally focuses on Pokémon battles.
- A Day in the Limelight: Owlicious gets a bit more focus in this chapter. It opens with a flashback showing how he met Twilight, he is used as a hostage by Doom Raizer to force Twilight to open the doors to the Hidden Temple, and he evolves during the big battle.
- Hold Your Hippogriffs: During Doom's Motive Rant of justifying Team Shadow's actions and goals, he claims there are worse people in the world that are allowed to do whatever they want because weak people manage to "Sneasel" their way into power.
- I Have Your Wife: Doom Raizer forces Twilight to help them open the doors to the temple by thretening Owlicious.
- The Reveal: It is revealed that Shining Armor was the one Luna sent Ankyload to, with him using it in the battle against the Team Shadow Grunts.
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: When Doom Raizer is giving his Motive Rant on how Might Makes Right and that by Team Shadow becoming the strongest authority in the world it will be for the benefit of everyone, Shining Armor doesn't buy it for a second and says Doom is nothing but a lunatic and criminals like him always try to justify their actions and make it sound like some noble goal. The truth is he and all the other members of Team Shadow don't care about anyone but themselves, they are just doing this because they like it.
- Took a Level in Badass: Owlicious evolves from a Psychick to an Owlolar after learning Mind Force.
