Recap / Pokemon EA 13 The Kindest Trainer In Everfree

Go To

The group learns of Grizzor, a dangerous and territorial wild Pokémon that lives in the forest near Camp Everfree. While Lightning Blitz becomes obsessed with catching it himself, Fluttershy attempts to bond with it through kindness.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Fluttershy nicknames the Grizzor "Harry" while taking care of him, because of how hairy he is. When she asks if he is okay with that name he allows it.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Harry the Grizzor is initially presented as one. Gloriosa and Timber describe him as a dangerous and territorial Pokémon that lives on the edge of their property that attacks anyone who invades his territory. He is shown to be vicious at battling, managing to defeat Lightning, Flash, Rainbow, and Trixie. But, he ultimately subverts it by showing a soft and caring side to him, protecting Fluttershy from a swarm of Beedrill at the cost of getting poisoned himself, and allowing her and the others at camp to nurse him back to health. By the end of the chapter he is shown to actually be Beary Friendly, especially when he chooses to stay with Fluttershy.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Fluttershy's kindness while taking care of Harry touches him, with him noting how different she is from all the other humans he ever encountered who just tried to catch him. Because of this, when he is given the choice to return to his home in the forest or stay with her and help her achieve her dream of a Pokémon Sanctuary one day, he ultimately chooses to stay with her.
  • Entitled Bastard: Lightning Blitz acts like he is the only one who deserves Grizzor, since he considers it a strong Pokémon, and tries to catch it while it is weak even after he already lost to it and didn't weaken it himself, only being talked down as a warning. When Harry chooses to stay with Fluttershy, catching himself in her Pokeball, Lightning demands that Fluttershy release him right away, saying she doesn't deserve to have him like he does.
  • I Choose to Stay: When Harry is given the choice to return to his home in the forest or stay with his new friend Fluttershy and help her with her dream of creating a Pokémon Sanctuary one day, after a moment of thought he ultimately chooses to stay with her, and catches himself in one of her Pokeballs.
  • Kill Steal: Lightning tries to do this once again like he did with Sharazor by trying to catch Harry while he is weakened despite not doing it himself. He is stopped this time though, and warned not to attempt to catch Harry as long as Harry is in camp under threat of punishment.
  • Loophole Abuse: Lightning is forbidden from trying to catch Harry for as long as he is in camp recovering. Once Harry is fully recovered though, Lightning hides outside of camp, planning to ambush Harry and try to battle and catch him again as soon as he steps outside. He never gets the chance to try though, since Harry decides to remain with Fluttershy and catches himself in one of her Pokeballs.
  • The Nose Knows: Harry is able to tell where the real Springer is when he uses Double Team by sniffing out the real one.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Fluttershy screams at Harry to please stay with her as he prepares to leave camp, asking him to stay with her and help make her stronger so she can protect her dream for a Pokémon Sanctuary one day.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Lightning demands that Fluttershy release Grizzor, saying that a weakling like her has no right to own such a strong Pokémon and she has no idea how to control it, Fluttershy stands her ground against Lightning, saying she doesn't want to control Harry, and that she is going to keep working and improving herself until she understands him.
Fluttershy: I don't want to control Harry! Pokémon aren't weapons or tools for us to do with as we please. They're our friends, our partners. You're right, I probably don't know how to use Harry's power the best way right now. But... but I'll learn. (glares at Lightning) I'll work hard until I can understand Harry's battling style and know exactly how he wants to fight, because a real trainer changes their style to match their Pokémon's way of fighting, not force their Pokémon to fight their way! That's what bullies do, like you!
  • The Reveal: The territorial Pokémon mentioned in the previous chapter turns out to be a Grizzor.
