The film centers around a worker-bee named Bing, who, along with the other workers, is being worked to exhaustion by the evil queen Akif and her cruel second-in-command Bellza. Akif has usurped the hive from the previous Good Queen Beatrice, and has an insatiable demand for more honey. Forced to expand the hive and obtain more honey for the greedy queen, Bing and the others, with the help of their friend from another hive, must find a way to liberate the hive from her control and restore the rightful queen to the hive.
The film begins with Bing, the main character and The Hero, relaxing and hanging out with Buffy. He then tries to get his troop of bees to pollinate flowers (which despite being bees, they appear incapable of doing), and motivating them to do so.
The Conflict begins with Bellza intentionally ramming Bing. As a result Bing orders his troops to return to the hive and unload their nectar into the vats (using their creepy tongues) to turn it into honey. While they are churning the honey, Queen Akif appears, and explains to them that she banished Queen Beatrice. She then demands that they increase honey production using the technique "drill and drain".
The bees move out to collect more honey, passing a statue of George Washington. They appear to again need to be told how to extract nectar, as Joey tries eating a flower and Zips crashes into one.
