Recap / Peg + Cat S1E30 "The Cleopatra Problem"

Go To

Peg and Cat are in an ancient Egyptian desert. How? It's unexplained. Anyway, they're there, and they're hanging out with Cleopatra. Peg shows Cleopatra a blue marble that everyone finds impressive, but loses it in a bowl of spice. She is unsure how she'll get it back, but Cleopatra has an idea: all the bowls weigh the same, so if they weigh them on a pan balance, the heaviest one is the one with the marble.

Upon finding the marble, they have a feast to celebrate and look at the marble again but it lands on a cart that gets pulled away by a different camel.

Peg, Cat, and Cleopatra ride Epidermis in pursuit of the cart and talk about a statue of Cat that was built to watch over the pyramids. Cat doesn't know what a pyramid is, so Peg explains.

Near some pyramids, they find the cart, but a bird with headphones flies off with the marble. Cleopatra orders the bird to give the marble back, but it doesn't. They wonder if it's because it's a bird and doesn't understand, or maybe it just doesn't hear because its music is too loud. The bird drops the marble on top of a pyramid, so Epidermis climbs up with Peg, Cat, and Cleopatra still on his back, but accidentally knocks it off with his head and it (and they) slide down and somehow up the pyramids until the marble lands in a hollow pyramid. Cleopatra finds a secret entrance and they (sans Epidermis) enter, but can't find the pyramid.

They decide it must have rolled outside, but it's not outside and neither is Epidermis but they do find a lot of hoof-prints. Ramone offers a ride in his chariot and he notes that he saw someone with a red, triangular beard, so they sing a song about the red, triangular beard. They find the beard on Pig, but he didn't take the marble or Epidermis: he just arrived to look at the triangles.

They begin to become worried that they'll never figure it out, but then Peg notes that the pan balance with the bowls of camel food on it is unequal, thereby finding the marble. They start to sing "Problem Solved" and Epidermis sings, "So everything wah!" and they find him behind the curtain. It turns out, he was the one who took the marble, and Peg convinces Cleopatra to let him off with a warning because she can relate as the marble is just so impressive. Then, they sing a song about balancing acts.

This episode provides examples of

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Cat is dark purplish blue and Epidermis is lilac. Other pastel-colored camels are also seen.
  • Anachronism Stew: It's never explained how Peg and Cat got to ancient Egypt, and if they know Cleopatra well enough to be friends with her, they must've been there several times (or she's been to the modern world several times). Peg and Cat being friends with Ludwig Van Beethoven is also mentioned.
  • Ancient Egypt: This episode takes place in an ancient Egyptian desert.
  • Borrowed Catch Phrase: Cleopatra says, "totally freaking out" along with Peg.
  • Catchphrase: Peg says her catchphrases and Ramone also says his "I do what I can" catchphrase.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Cat has his moments of not being able to extrapolate, and Pig's preoccupation with triangles pops up.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • When Peg and Cleopatra explain the pan balance and say, "We know the heavier one has...", Cat replies, "A cold? Hiccups?"
    • When Peg says she's friends with the best cat in the world, Cat says, "Puss in Boots?".
  • Funny Animal: Pig and Cat are both anthropomorphic animals, although Pig is more anthropomorphic.
  • Large Ham: Both Peg and Cleopatra are quite dramatic.
  • Shout-Out: When Peg calls Cat the best cat in the world, he wonders if she's talking about Puss in Boots.
  • Speech-Impaired Animal: Epidermis sings, "So everything wah!" instead of "So everything is awesome!".
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: The "guys who look like Mac" don't wear shirts. Justified, as they're wearing ancient Egyptian clothes.
  • Walk Like an Egyptian: During the balancing act song, everyone dances like stereotypical ancient Egyptians.
