Recap / PaPCAaMiPT Ch 47 "Ripped Pants"

Go To

The Pies and the twins set the table for lunch, and they have Pinkie and Marble's old high chairs for the twins in case one of the Pie sisters has kids. Limestone grumpily declares that none of them will be having kids: there's not enough room on the farm for her to have them (and she isn't planning on leaving), Maud is busy working on her "rocktorate" (essentially degree in geology), and she figures Pinkie and Marble have to wait until they're a bit older. Maud and Marble tell Limestone not to be grumpy and embarrass her by bringing up the fact that she was the only Pie sister who had trouble graduating from pull-ups.

Everyone eats, but unfortunately the twins find the soup not as good as their normal food, they don't eat the actual rocks, and it makes Pumpkin need to pee (which, apparently, is common for ponies who have first tried it).

While Cloudy takes Pumpkin to the bathroom, Pound looks around for something to do: he isn't allowed to fly, Limestone is too grumpy to play with, Maud is too dull and he doesn't understand why she keeps a rock as a pet, Marble only has a teddy bear to play with, and Igneous is busy looking for a scrapbook. So, he decides to play with Smarty Pants.

He picks her up and then pretends she is a drumstick, then Cloudy and Pumpkin come back. Pumpkin finds Smarty Pants gone, explains who she is, and Maud reveals that Pound took Smarty Pants. Pumpkin angrily goes into the kitchen and finds Pound using Smarty Pants to drum on bowls. Then, he rips her.

Pumpkin is very mad and threatens him with the "silent treatment", making Pound very sad, but fortunately Limestone can sew Smarty Pants back up.

This chapter provides examples of

  • Artistic License – Biology: Liquids don't really take seconds to go through your bloodstream and make you pee.
  • Eat Dirt, Cheap: The Pies and the twins eat "rock soup" (though the twins take the rocks out).
  • I Want Grandkids: Downplayed. While Igneous and Cloudy don't pressure their daughters into having foals, they do seem rather keen on the idea.
  • Nerdy Nasalness: Implied when Pound speaks for Smarty Pants in a "nerdy tone".
  • Say My Name: Pumpkin shouts, "Smarty Pants!" when the latter gets torn.
  • Shout-Out: Defied in an author's note. While the title is the same as a Sponge Bob Squarepants episode, this was likely a coincidence as the author says not to make SpongeBob references in the comments.
  • Silent Treatment: Discussed. Pumpkin threatens not to speak to Pound again if he can't fix Smarty Pants.
