Recap / Our Cartoon President S1E10 "First Pitch"

Go To

The Washington Nationals game is coming up and Trump has to give the first pitch, but he's too lazy and insecure about his masculinity to practice. Instead, he tries making himself look like a man's man by other means.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Attention Whore: When Trump gives H. R. McMaster the Medal of Honor for his work in Iraq, Trump is quick to make-up a lie about serving in Iraq before giving him his "dumb medal", trying not to cry in front of everyone.
  • Compensating for Something: Ted Cruz's advice is that holding a firearm makes a good subsidy for a lack of confidence in one's own masculinity.
    Ted Cruz: Feelin' Good!
  • Establishing Character Moment: John Bolton is introduced giving a public service announcement in the Oval Office as though he were president, explaining his intentions on declaring war on the entire world for no reason. When Trump walks in, he's quick to hit the Big Red Button on the desk, thinking it's the Nuclear-Football.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Most of the episode is Trump trying various ways to make him seem more masculine, all of which fall flat because Trump is too lazy to actually put in the effort.
  • Phony Veteran: Trump makes up stories about being a soldier in Iraq, making hyperbolic statements about humiliating Saddam Hussein and donating his Medals to science.
  • Secret Test of Character: Trump's War Council give Trump the Nuclear-Football and feed him a story about North Korea's nuclear capabilities. When Trump tries to activate it, they admit that it's a fake and they just wanted him to feel like a "real man" for once.
