The season premiere starts where last season ended. Daya is still holding Humphrey and McCollough at gunpoint. Judy King is pressed up against a wall, and the inmates are shouting at Daya to shoot. Litchfield is in full riot mode.

- Idiot Ball: So, Mr. Caputo, I know you just finished a press conference and are probably losing your job, but do you think the prison alarm is going off for no dang reason?
- Mood Whiplash: The previous episode, "Toast Can't Ever Be Bread Again" was dark, heavy and spelled huge, swift change for the prison, for better or worse. "Riot FOMO" is mostly a darkly comedic, lighthearted episode that sets up side plots more than it moves the central plot forward.
- Pay Evil unto Evil: Maritza hasn't quite forgiven Humps for the rat thing.

- Shout-Out: After Boo hands Blanca locks to barricade the exits.
- Squick: Gina needs to get into the office where Luschek is hiding to turn off the alarm, but he won't let her in. What does she do? Wipe menstrual blood on her face and torso and gives the above quote. Even Blanca is grossed out by it and she stood on a table and peed/crapped on herself for days.
