Recap / OKKO Lets Be Heroes S 2 E 36 Rads Alien Sickness

Go To

When our heroes are infected with a virus, Rad stubbornly refuses to back down.

Tropes:

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: It turns out Rad's species can form a chrysalis around themselves in order to recover from severe ilness, which he eventually does at the end of the episode.
  • Call-Back: Once again, just like "All in the Villainy", Professor Venomous enhances a Boxmore robot for a Plaza attack by giving them tentacles for limbs. (Last time it was Darrell, this time it's Ernesto.)
  • Evil Gloating: After infecting the Bodega heroes with the virus, Venomous and Fink drive over to the front of the store (where the trio is practically hacking their lungs out) just to do this (including tossing in some cryptic words to confuse them further).
  • Forgot About His Powers: For some reason, when tentacle-enhanced Ernesto shows up, K.O. and Enid aren't shown even attempting to fight him with their powers, pretty much just trying to run away from him and getting beaten up repeatedly, declaring he's "too strong", and requiring a very-sick Rad to save them. Especially jarring considering that they and Rad beat tentacle-Darrell and Fink (who's probably more powerful than any of the robots) handily in their 3-on-2 battle in "All in the Villainy", yet get curb-stomped despite being 2-on-1 against Ernesto.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: We get way too close to sick Rad.
  • Milestone Celebration: In-Universe, Rad is about to celebrate stacking one million boxes.
  • Shout-Out: The first appearance of Fink and Venomous in the episode, an introductory sequence where they boast about their villainy and who they are, alternate lines (with the female teammate speaking first, then the male member) that finish each other's sentences, introduce themselves by name, and strike a pose at the end, heavily resembles Team Rocket's iconic motto that they recite Once per Episode.
  • Sick Episode: Professor Venomous gives the bodega heroes a virus. K.O. and Enid take a sick day and get better, but Rad doesn't take a day and gets worse.
  • Sneeze of Doom: Rad gives a Megaton Punch sneeze to Ernesto, sending him back to Boxmore.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: After Rad's explosive sneeze blows Ernesto to bits, one of his tentacle limbs (wearing his hat) comes flying towards and lands right in front of Venomous and Fink...and just explodes for some reason. And despite leaving the two of them with no more damage than just Ash Face, it somehow disintegrates their car into ash.
  • Tempting Fate: After Ernesto's tentacle arm literally blows up in their faces:
Venomous: (Without changing expression) Please tell me the car's okay.
The car completely disintegrates into ash
  • Too Dumb to Live: While K.O. and Enid take a sick day off and come back just fine, Rad stays at the plaza trying to stock his millionth box. He doesn't get the hint after a whole night of trying and failing to move the box.
  • Unexpected Character: Ernesto. As they point out In-Universe he only shows up once a season.
  • Vanity License Plate: Venomous's car has one, reading "SNKB1T3" (Snake Bite).
  • Watch the Paint Job: After Venomous and Fink sic Ernesto onto the Bodega gang and contently watch from a distance, Venomous notices a scratch on the car and starts polishing it to get rid of it. He's just finished when one of Ernesto's tentacle-arms is sent flying back at them and explodes, reducing the entire car to a pile of ash.
  • Working Through the Cold: Rad just gets sicker and sicker because he stubbornly refuses to go home and rest before he stacks his millionth box.
  • Worst Aid: K.O. starts out with reasonable treatments for Rad, but after his first few treatments fail he tries stuff like aromatherapy, leeches, and crystals.
