In the wake of the Great Devourer's defeat, the ninja are looking for a place for Lloyd to train. At the same time, Garmadon's attempts to unlock the power of his new Mega Weapon brings the original crew of his ship back to life, and they happen to be plundering pirates...
This episode provides examples of:
- Awesome, but Impractical: Garmadon's use of the Mega Weapon severely drains his energy, limiting him to being able to use it only once per day.
- Back from the Dead: Garmadon's first use of the Mega Weapon brings the original pirate crew of the Destiny's Bounty back to life.
- Chain Pain: In the absence of his shuriken, Zane uses a chain weapon.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Kai effortlessly defeats Dareth with Spinjitzu.
- Disney Villain Death: Jay pushes a pirate off the speeding ship high over the city.
- Epic Fail: Dareth is not very good at anything related to combat. Even the untrained Lloyd outdoes him.
- Family-Unfriendly Death: The Mega Weapon outright disintegrates one of the pirates when he tries to grab it.
- Foreshadowing: Captain Soto mentions his search for the Island of Darkness in his journal at the start of the episode...
- How Do I Shot Web?: Garmadon doesn't immediately know how to use the Mega Weapon, resulting in him pathetically waving it around trying to attack the Ultra Dragon. He only finds out its capabilities on accident.
- Innocuously Important Episode: If not for the introductions of Dareth and Captain Soto, the latter of whom sets up the season's endgame, this would just be a filler episode.
- The Power of Creation: The Mega Weapon turns out to have the elemental powers of Creation.
