Airdate: July 27, 2019

Master Wu explains his past with Aspheera to the Ninja.

  • Cross-Referenced Titles: To "Never Trust a Snake", which both involve a people learning not to trust snakes.
  • Forbidden Fruit: The First Spinjitzu Master has forbidden his sons from entering Serpentine territory in fear of starting a war. Guess where Wu wants to go when he gets bored of the lake?
  • Hypocrite: Aspheera hates Wu for supposedly betraying her, and cares nothing for the fact that she took advantage of his trust as part of her plan to seize power.
  • Moral Myopia: Despite promising Wu that she would not use the Spinjitzu skills taught to her for evil, Aspheera used them to overthrow the current Serpentine king at the time and planned to conquer Ninjago. When Wu calls her out for it, she claimed it wasn't an act of evil, in the sense that the strong (her) should lead.
  • Never My Fault: Aspheera sees Wu as the treacherous deceiver, when she broke her promise not to use Spinjitzu for evil.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: King Mambo V, the current ruler of the Serpentine during Wu and Garmadon's childhood, rightly calls out the boys for trespassing on Serpentine territory and violating the truce between humans and Serpentine. That said, his punishment for the boys was rather lenient, since he merely planned to imprison them for one night before releasing them, and never once considered using them as hostages against the First Spinjitzu Master.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Both Wu and Aspheera feel betrayed by the other's actions.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: This episode takes place during Wu’s childhood and reveals how he crossed paths with Aspheera and became the “treacherous deceiver” in her eyes.
