After being rescued by Lloyd, Arin and Sora return with him to the monastery to learn more about what became of the ninja, and what happened during the Merge.
Tropes:
- All According to Plan: The Imperium's plan wasn't necessarily to capture Riyu, but partly to lure Lloyd out into the open. And now he's "bonded" with a Source Dragon.
- Continuity Nod: Exasperated with the apparent situational nature of her powers, Sora asks if they're "on-again, off-again", forcing Lloyd to sheepishly admit that, yeah, they kind of are.
- Evil Laugh: Beatrix ends the episode with an appropriately evil one delivered to whoever she's got captive.
- Foreshadowing: Lloyd mentions on arrival at the dojo that he has been in contact with Kai, if not recently then at least after the Merge, before his flashback.
- How Do I Shot Web?: Learning she has powers means Sora now has to discover the downside; learning she has no idea how to work her powers. Trying to sabotage the Claws' weapons sort of works, in that she inadvertently turns them into bombs.
- I Choose to Stay: Riyu chooses to remain with Arin and Sora, rather than return to his fellow dragons. The dragon matriarch doesn't entirely approve, but Lloyd assures her they'll try to take care of him.
- Mood Whiplash: Arin returns Lloyd's hood to him, only for it to turn out that in all that time he's never washed the damn thing (mainly because he didn't know you could).
- Party Scattering: This happened to the ninja during the Merge. Shortly after rescuing Arin, there was a bright flash of light. Next thing Lloyd knew, he was in the monastery, with the others and the Destiny's Bounty nowhere to be seen. It was a few weeks before Kai reappeared, having woken up on an island that hadn't been near Ninjago City before, to confirm that anyone else had survived.
- Uncertain Doom: Wu vanished during the Merge, apparently having known it would happen. Kai survived, but Nya, Jay, Cole and Zane's fates are equally unknown.
- The Voiceless: Kai gets a speaking role in the flashbacks, but everyone else remains silent.
