Go To

Dr David Hale is caught in an explosion at the hospital he works at while performing life-or-death brain surgery on one of his patients. The 118 work together with numerous other firehouses to save the lives of the hospital’s patients. While he waits for David to be rescued, Michael decides to ask a life changing question.

Tropes featured in the episode:

  • Didn't Think This Through: Michael plans to propose to David before he leaves for Haiti to show that he loves him and that he is part of the family. However, when Athena asks how he’s going to propose he goes blank and reveals that he doesn’t know. Michael hasn’t even gotten an engagement ring yet, picked out a suit to wear or even planned where he wants to get married.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Michael and David are watching a news report about the destruction left by a hurricane in Haiti, David then reveals to Michael that he is going away for 2 months to help out with the relief work in Haiti.
  • Hold the Line: In a non-combat example, the 118 have to hold back the spreading inferno for long enough for David to complete a life-or-death surgery and evacuate his patient. It's a very close thing.
  • How We Got Here: After the opening where an explosion occurs in the hospital, the episode starts 1 hour before this event.
  • Put on a Bus: Michael Grant and Dr. David Hale decide to leave LA and head to Haiti to help with relief efforts after a hurricane hit.
  • Rewatch Bonus: While Claudette has always shown to take her job as a 911 dispatcher seriously, this is one of the few appearances where she isn't antagonistic to anyone else as well as emotionally affected by a 911 call. It makes more sense after the episode "May Day" where it's revealed she has a big fear of fire.
  • Tempting Fate: David tells Michael that he only has a few surgeries left on his calendar before he can leave for Haiti. During one of these surgeries an explosion occurs.
